Your calculations stay in your browser
Velofy's calculators run entirely in your browser — your salary, loan amount, property value, rent and deductions are worked out on your device and are not sent to us. There are no accounts and no database of users tied to the calculators. The one exception is the optional NSW property-manager request form, which sends only the details you choose to submit, and only if you tick consent — see the opt-in section below. We also keep anonymous, first-party usage statistics — which pages get used and for how long — that are never linked to you and never include the numbers you type; see the usage-statistics section below.
To understand which tools help people — and improve the right ones — we run our own small usage counter on our own servers. No third party is involved. When you visit a page it records: the page address, how long the tab was actually visible, a count of button presses on the page outside the navigation and footer (a count only — never which button, and never the numbers you type), whether your device is mobile or desktop, the country your connection comes from, and the name of the site you arrived from (for example “google.com” — never the full page you were on). Each send also carries a random per-page identifier and a page counter used to de-duplicate and order views — both are meaningless outside your own tab session. If you have used the “save this scenario” feature on a calculator, the counter also includes a single coarse flag saying that a saved scenario exists on your device and roughly how old it is (four age bands only) — never the scenario itself, and none of the numbers in it.
Pages from the same visit are grouped by a random session id kept in your browser’s sessionStorage. It isn’t a cookie, it can’t identify you, and your browser deletes it the moment the tab closes. Your IP address is never stored: we keep only a one-way scrambled fingerprint (a hash mixed with a secret) used to spot abuse and roughly count unique visitors — it cannot be reversed to your address. There is no cross-site tracking of any kind. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we honour it and record nothing at all. Raw usage events are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted — only aggregate statistics (such as “average time on the tax calculator”) survive beyond that.
The NSW rent tools include one optional form. If — and only if — you submit it with the consent box ticked, we collect: your email address, and the property details you entered (postcode, dwelling type, bedrooms, current rent and the calculated gap). We use this to (a) email you when the local median moves, if you asked us to monitor, and/or (b) pass your request to up to three partner property-management agencies so they can contact you — that sharing is the purpose of the “get quotes” option and happens only with your consent. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link (Spam Act 2003). We keep these details for up to 12 months, then delete them. To have yours deleted sooner, email us — address below — and we’ll confirm within 30 days. The calculator itself still sends nothing: this applies solely to the form.
Velofy operates in Australia under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Because the calculators don’t collect personal information on our servers — and the usage statistics are anonymised by design (no identifiers, no stored IPs) — most of those obligations are handled by how the site is built. The one exception is the opt-in property-manager form described above: for that flow we follow the APPs on notice, consent, access and deletion, and the Spam Act on unsubscribing.
